Dr. Pablo Sanchez, Parkland Hospital
Dr. Pablo Sanchez, a Parkland Hospital neonatologist, is recognized for his strong advocacy of breastfeeding, both with his staff as well as the families of the premature infant population. Dr. Myra Wyckoff introduced and honored Dr. Pablo Sanchez for his significant work in the Parkland system. Dr. Sanchez accepted the award with deep gratitude.

5th Annual DABA Recognition Luncheon "Mother Support: Going for the Gold"

Jan Emler of Emler Swim School
Emler Swim School, an employer in the Dallas area, supports breastfeeding for both their staff and clients. As a swim school that gently introduces young children to swimming, there are many nursing mothers around the school with their children. Jan Emler, owner, has seen that breastfeeding babies respond well to swimming lessons. As a part of the award presentation, we were able to view beautiful underwater photography of infant swim school students, as well as a video interview with an Emler employee who is a breastfeeding mother.

DABA Honors Outstanding Efforts in Promoting Breastfeeding for Women in the Work Place

Texas Instruments
Texas Instruments works diligently to assist their employees who are nursing mothers by providing several private pumping rooms throughout their buildings, along with medical grade pumps and information about breastfeeding or pumping when requested. Betty Purkey, Manager of Work/Life Strategies, has been invited to receive the award on behalf of the organization.
Dr. Julie Lo
Dr. Julie Y. Lo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UT Southwestern University Hospital St. Paul and is board certified both in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She has been a strong advocate for the support and advancement of breastfeeding for both physicians and new mothers in her role providing high-risk pregnancy services to her patients.

DABA Honors Outstanding Efforts in Promoting Breastfeeding for Women in the Work Place

Dallas Child Magazine
Lauren Publications and their magazine Dallas Child was chosen for their consistent support of breastfeeding, not only in their organization, but also through their encouraging articles that promote breastfeeding. The theme for World Breastfeeding Week commemorates 25 years of breastfeeding protection and promotion with careful attention to appropriate marketing of breast milk substitutes. Lauren Publications has never accepted any advertising for breast milk substitutes, making it an organization that clearly deserved to be honored this year.
Dallas Symphony Orchestra
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra supports their breastfeeding employees and musicians. They have been seeking the Mother Friendly Worksite designation that the Texas Department of State Health Services awards to employers who have written policies that support and encourage their employees who want to continue to provide breast milk for their infants after they return to work.

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld
The law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP was honored for their support of the Dallas Area Breastfeeding Alliance. The law firm has Mother Friendly Worksite status and has hosted the meetings of DABA since 2004 and their support for this organization has enabled us to work toward protection and promotion of breastfeeding in the greater Dallas area.
Children's Medical Center Dallas
The administration of the hospital has supported the efforts of their employee health nurse over the past 10 years in establishing extensive employee resources for staff members who are breastfeeding and returning to work. This has made Children's a great place to work for breastfeeding mothers.
Debbie Robertson, RN, Employee Health Nurse
Ms. Robertson was honored for her exceptional role of implementing an employee breastfeeding support program that included prenatal classes, on-going lactation support and employee pumping rooms throughout the hospital. Ms. Roberston�s role in the Occupational Health and Wellness Department at Children�s Medical Center allowed her the opportunity to support breastfeeding employees both prenatally and when returning to work.

Dr. Susan Briner
Dr. Briner was the Director of Primary Care Pediatric Services at DeHaro-Saldivar Health Center, Parkland Hospital and Health System. Dr. Briner has devoted her professional and volunteer time to the healthcare needs of women and their children living in poverty. She has been a passionate, innovative leader working to remove healthcare barriers and promotes breastfeeding for the children and families she works. She has taught the interns and the staff she works with how breastfeeding contributes to public health.
